Help On Electric/Fuse/Headlamp Prob...Please!
hey guys
got a problem: i'm taking over my little cousins' 97 accord lx and she hasn't been able to drive it at night because the right headlamp "wasn't working". so i checked the fuses under the hood and viola! 2 burned out 20 fuses and 1 15, (1 of the 20's was for the Right Headlamp). I also replaced the bulb in the headlamp, then put the key into ready position in the ignition and HORN!! Not alarm sound horn but looong horn. so i replaced the new fuses with the old burned out ones, and the horn was no longer...the car drives, but is useless at night...only has one headlight which makes it a ticket magnet. and the interior lighting is also out. but only the lights in A/C controls and speedometer dash...oh, along with the back tail lights! Both sides; however, the brake lights work.
i'm wondering if any1 has encountered such a problem..if it's something common or something unheard of? so i know exactly what im dealing with..i plan on trying to get a honda tech to look at it away from the honda dealership prices, but hopefully someone here might have a good word to share and could put my ability to follow directions to a test..maybe haha j/p thanks in advance everyone..cheers!

New member... Welcome to the forum!
Anybody been messing with wiring lately? Installing a stereo, alarm, or ???
We can suggest dozens of wiring things to check, but its just gonna be a tedious job to check them all. Got a multi-meter? How much experience do you have with electrical troubleshooting?
You need somebodywho owns a 97 & has a wiring diagram (2 strikes against ME). We will probably answer differently depending on whether YOU do it or you take it to a mechanic, so let us know.

Thanks for the welcoming Jim and i am very appreciative of the help you've offered.
Actually, someone has wired an alarm(seems to be kinda cheap) and a stereo system as well. I'm not sure if that could be a possible cause or solution ?? But i have no problem getting the two uninstalled to solve this headlamp troubleshoot!
Im going to pick upa multi-meter today in hopes of gathering more info, but i don't have much experience in electrical troubleshooting- only the common sense part..so any info you guys have to offer will be helpful...i just don't know if this seemingly small wiring prob could turn into a huge nightmare, being electrical and all....

It has all the makings of a nightmare...
Several things that should be completely unrelated, like alarm & horn & headlights seem to be turning each other on& off.
I would go with removing the alarm first. POmay havewired the alarm to flash the lights & blow the horn. Well, maybe he INTENDED it to be that way...
The goal with an alarm is to make the connections so its NOT obvious for a thief to get the car running. Thats another reason it sounds like a tedious job.

Well I just checked it out even more-so with a co-worker and we've found that the horn sound isn't the alarm, its the car horn located in front of the radiator that is making the constant noise! We disconnected the two horns and of course the sound is gone..and although both headlamps seemed to be working without the loud irritating sound of the horn, the back tail lights still appear to be out.
I know this problem has to be fixed regardless; no way disconnecting the car horn will solve the problem by ignoring the hidden facts, so a friend of mine knows a good M.Benz mechanic who can take a look today in a couple hours...I'm hoping by choosing this kind of specialist to take a look at it couldn't hurt....right?? thanks again man

I'm dealing with some headlight problems on a 95 accord. Go to the DIY section and open online manuals thread. go to spoonhonda site and click on manuals. You can get a wiring diagram for a 94. I believe it is a mitchell, and the headlight wiring should be identical to your 97.
http://www.dhost.info/accordinfo/has the shop manual for a 94 accord split into chapters in pdf form. Either download each chapter, or spoonhonda has a 94 shop manual to download as one large pdf.
I would keep the 20 amp fuse in for the pass headlight. While driving during the day, turn on the headlights. If you do not blow that fuse, then you headlight issue is fixed.
I would find it very strange that a faulty alarm system would blow out on the pass fuse and not the driver's 20 amp fuse.
