Default Honda Accord 1997 P0135 (O2 Sensor), Please help!

Got OBD2 reading of P0135 (Bank 1 Sensor 1) on my Honda Accord 1997, 4 Cyl, 2.2 L.

I would like to make sure which O2 sensor it is? Is this the one on the top when you pop the hood? or on the bottom near the catalyst converter? The guy at Autozone said they couldn't tell.

I also heard Bosch O2 sensor is bad. where can I get a Denso sensor? part number?

Thanks in advance.

Bank 1, Sensor 1 is ahead of catalytic converter (under the hood).

This is a fault in the heater element circuit (sensor, connector, wire, or ECM). Suggest checking resistance of heating element by disconnecting O2 sensor and checking resistance of two same color (usually gray or black) wires. If open (infinite or dead short), then replace O2 sensor. If 10-20 ohms, then it's possible the fault is connector, wiring, or ECM.

Check ebay, rockauto, and amazon for a good deal on denso o2 sensor.

good luck

One of this forum's sponsors - theautopartsshop.com - sells Denso sensors for a good price + free shipping:

Thanks for all the help. I was about to order the part when someone pointed out it is a 'A/F sensor'. is that the same as oxygen sensor? the original diagnosis from Autozone:

Troubleshooting P0135

A/F sensor 1 heater system malfunction
Probable cause
1. - open or short circuit condition
2. - Poor Electrical Connection
3. - Faulty A/F sensor 1

Just want to make sure before continuing. Thanks.

Difference between A/F sensor and O2 sensor is kinda semantics. They either work like a proportional sensor or an on-off switch. Make sure you get the right one for your car. It's probably a conventional O2 sensor because A/F sensors started in 1998 ULEV engines then 2003 all 4-cyl engines.

I checked a 1997 Accord EX, 4-cyl at Majestic Honda and it had a O2 sensor.

Remember that faults 1 and 2 may not be part of the O2 sensor; ie you may install new sensor and find problem not resolved. Odds are good that you will, but not 100%,... unless you perform some diagnostics.

good luck

Is this a non vtec motor? Cause my vtec only has 1 sensor right before the cat converter.

That's because 95 is OBD-1 and 97 is OBD-2. Not because of VTEC.
