Honda Accord 1998 shudders and jerks after prolong driving
Good day to you all in the forum. My honda accord shudders and jerks with automatic transmission not shifting properly when coming to a stop(speed bumps) and when accelerating after prolong driving at distance. This only happens after driving for a long distance. In the morning when driving out you don't notice any jerking or shuddering, after driving for long the problem will come up. Also if it is allow to cool down the problem will subside and shift smoothly and no jerkings. The temperature gauge is reading fine (1/4), no overheating was experience. We did perform scan but no codes was displayed relating to faulty auto transmission. What might be causing this erratic shifts after prolong driving and jerking??.
Please your response will help greatly. This is the only problem the car is having. The speed is very good Thanks
Thanks for replying. Is almost a year now I changed the auto transmission fluid. Here in Nigeria we have various brands of ATF fluid. But I will try get the best for the Honda Accord. Also I will check the functionality of the Radiator if is cooling perfectly. I understand that radiator also cools the ATF, I will check the connection point for normalcy. Please any other areas to look out for. I was told to check out for igniton coil, the distributor, problems in areas of faulty wiring connections, spark plugs. Any other suggestions.
Note: The Thermostat was removed sometimes ago because our temperatures here is different from yours over there.
Thanks

The thermostat is designed to allow the engine to warm up to 100°C quickly, then open to the radiator to maintain that temperature. So driving long distances will push enough air over the radiator to drop your coolant temperature since you don't have a thermostat to regulate. I suggest installing a thermostat.
Good day to you all. From my observations when using the Honda Accord car, each time I want to accelerate from a stop like I want to step on the gas pedal for me to move forward I have to hesitate for few seconds for the shifting to occur before stepping on the gas pedal. If I should forcefully step on the gas pedal to accelerate forward without waiting for a few seconds the car will bang heavily and shudders. Please why is this happening? Though I haven't change the ATF fluid yet despite it still looks clean and no dirt's materials within it. This also occurs when coming to stop. What should I look out for. Scan results reveals no code. I haven't been using the car often because of these bad experience only on short distances in conjunction with the fact that it shifts erratically after driving long distances probably related temperature changes. Any suggestions will be useful
Thanks 👍 👍
Thanks 👍 👍
Install a Honda thermostat for your vehicle. Then do a drain refill on the transmission fluid to get fresh fluid in there. It will take 3 quarts. You can drive for a bit to mix in the new fluid, then drain refill again.
Good day to you all in the forum. Please I want to find out for Honda accord 1998 model auto with 4 cylinders. Does the auto transmission has its own mount that prevents it from jerking or shaking?.
Thanks
