Question Honda accord 2004 4 Cycl start issue

Hello Guys,

I have Honda accord 2004 4 Cycl car. It has very weird issue - Sometimes my car do not start in one go even though I hear engine crank noise. When I turn on my car, all lights turn on so do not think it could be a battery issue. I replaced all spark plugged as well because it has 120K miles already so it was due anyways.
Do not know what else could be an issue. Since this problem is not regular, mechanic could not figure it out either. However, I have noticed that whenever I fill up a gas into my car, it doesn't start right away and I have to try 2-3 time before my car turn it on. It happens to me 3 times but again its not regular too.

You may have a fuel supply issue.

Suggest to listen carefully for fuel pump to run 2 secs when keyswitch is turned to On. If you don't hear the fuel pump from fuel tank, then no start is likely. Probably fault is main fuel relay 2.

A shop manual will help (check automanualsource.com for $22)

good luck

DO you know what would be the max expense to replace fuel pump if mechanic thinks this is the issue? I am just trying to justify cost against the milage of this car (revised 124K).

Thanks for your quick response.

It is much less likely to be a fuel pump than the main fuel relay 2.

If fuel pump were replaced, it 's not too difficult. Part including fuel pump and fuel level sensor is pricey at $250. It is possible to replace fuel pump only, but added labor may offset any parts savings. I've found that installation usually costs about same as part, so perhaps $500.

Hopefully, not fuel pump.

good luck

My car completely died. No engine crank noise this morning. Getting it tow to mechanic to find out the issue.
