Default 2002 Honda SE EXEC 2.0i 5 door hatch Climate Control

AC only blowing warm air.............

Hello I was working in the principle of eliminating what is NOT the fault as I can’t find out what the fault is. The symptoms are that the Air Com blows warm and the system has been re-gassed and was checked a few days later as I mentioned that the first re-gas made no difference. I have swapped over the Condenser relay with the Compressor clutch relay and the condenser fans work ok so that ruled out he relays. I am now assuming that there is no problem with the climate control panel as it does not show an error fault. I have check the heater valve and that opens and closes and you turn the temp from cool to hot, etc. I can't see the end of the compressor to see if the clutch actually does engage – not sure you can tell from the outer pulley side. So that’s where I am at the moment. Regards John

You should be able to see from the outer pulley side, a good flashlight will help. With the ac off the outer part of the pulley -"plate" should not be spinning with the belt. Once engaged it should....

You say you can "see" the heater valve move, check the hoses into and out of the heater core, want to be sure the valve is working. I've seen them where from the outside everything is moving but internally it is not closing off the coolant.

Took it to a Honda dealer today.... They did a re-gas and said there was a sight leak and tightened up a bolt. Still not working so more tests and they said it was the AC clutch not working.. I did ask if it was the clutch coil but they were not sure .. Wanted about £800 to fix it so I said I would think about it.. I am sure I saw it mentioned somewhere about tapping the end of the clutch to free it,, Any ideas ??

Yes it could be the "gap" in the compressor plate...the "tap" closes that.

So, I would want to verify power to the compressor? If that is there then the coil or gap could be bad. The gap can be adjusted (older ones) by removing or installing "spacers". If it is the coil, then it needs to be replaced and the gap checked......so are you up for this? If not call around and get other quotes and go with what you think is right.

Hello. I had a chance today to look unber the hood of a honda civic to see it the outer part of the Compressor pully can be turned by hand and it can. I now notice that on the Accord I cannot turn the outer part by hand or even with some force and when the AC is OFF the outer part also turns, so now I am even more confused. If the outer part is turning anyway even if the AC button is OFF or ON then I would of thought the compressor would be doing it job? Any comments Thanks again

You are not in the states so I'm not sure if they are the same as what we have here? I should have with the 2.0 in the first post, but when you put the price in the light came on, yes I'm slow.

Are there sites (Honda dealers or parts stores) that can give you good diagrams of the ac compressor clutch- I use a site "Majestic Honda" every now and then for things like this....According to the diagram the "outer part" is much smaller than the pulley. Are you seeing the "rim" of the belt pulley spining?

Hello OK on me being in the UK, but there is no UK Honda forum to ask anyone...I do have a diagram of the clutch assembly are it does show that is it almost the same size as the end of the pully.. I also have a Honda Civic and it looks the same type of compressor and that part turns freely so I think I have the correct part I am trying to turn..it is possible that with the clutch on all the time that something else it slipping. I have removed the relay to make sure it is not a duff relay and did swap it with the condensor relay>> I just wish I had a spare assemble to look at and then it would make much more sense. Thanks for you help once again Regards John
