Honda's list price is $4.42 for a 12 oz. bottle. It can be bought at discount for around $3.50.

Just me, due to the proximity of many dealerships near me, minor price differences, and knowing it's the proper fluid; I never even considered getting aftermarket Honda power steering fluid.

 

Yeah, me too. The genuine stuff isn't all that much different in price.

Interesting. That seems like a plausible explanation, especially given that drain and fill is exactly what I did. The power steering goes out semi-randomly, but cold definitely makes a difference.

If I'd known, I'd have used the Honda stuff in the first place. Guess I'll be draining and refilling again this weekend. Hopefully there's no permanent damage.

 

Most "leak-sealer" additives work by making the rubber swell up. Remove that chemical, the rubber can shrink. Unless something bad happened (corrosion?), they'll probably swell back up & be OK.
