Hood won't open-2000 Coupe

Hood release won't pop open hood. How do I open? Can't see anything to put screwdriver in.

Can you get to the cable coming into the latch on the pass side?

No. Can't see anything thru the grille. I have tried pulling on the latch cable from the cable handle with pliers, and no success.

I was hoping you could get a pair of long nose pliers onto the cable at the latch and pull it - towards the pass side.
