My horn sounds like it has a bad cold. When I hold it down it goes from low pitch to normal and back and forth. Should I just replace the whole horn assembly or is there something else that is wrong? Thanks. 1998 Honda Accord, 2.3 litre, VTEC
The horn is grounded thru its own mounting bracket. Try cleaning that up in case its corroded or loose or ??
Then try a jumper wire directly from the battery. If its still anemic, then you need a new horn. I guess thats the most likely thing.
If the horn works GOOD with that jumper, then theres no sense in buying a new horn. You have to chase down some loose or dirty connections SOMEWHERE in the circuit, fuse, or relay. I dont have my 98 circuit drawings any more, so you might need to get your hands on a repair manual.
