Default how to check or set a timing on 2000 accord SE

I read a manual but still not sure how to check a timing on 2000 accord SE. Well. the reason I want to check timing is that I get a poping sound and the engin jerks every 5-6 seconds on idle. I replaced the cap, rotor, spark plug to rule out. Another thing I want to try is to check a timing.

Do I need to take a cover off to find inspecion hole to see a timing mark?.

Assume this is a 4cyl.

You'll need to pull the upper tb cover. Then set the crank to TDC (pointer on crank pulley) the check the cam gear marks......
