Default How to get the SES codes out of a 1995

I have a friend with a 95 Civic 4cyl. He recently replaced the engine in the car. The SES light was on with the old engine. It's still on with the new engine (Junk yard engine with low miles). It's a 95 Civic with Vtech. I took it to Auto Zone to have the scanner put on it and that's when I found 95 and older are not ODBII readable. He said something about you have to make the SES light flash the codes out. Any help on this would be great! Thanks!

You have to jumper the connection, i have no idea about civics but there should be a wire under the glove box, with 2 pins. stick a paperclip in the whole so you connect them, them turn the key to the one position, the codes should flash, long pause is like 1.........2.........3........ then short go 1..2..3. if you get 1 long and 3 short thats a code 13.
to reset the light, you have to do much more, there is a write up somewhere, because i used it.
