Question Idle Problem

99 Accord LX 4 cylinder:
My idle would fluctuate up and down from neutral and drive to almost stall. So I tool apart the Throttle Body and and Idle Air Control Valve and cleaned them up. Got the carbon out of the TB butterfly and the IACV. Put it back together and now I cant even drive it. It stalls out when I put into drive and give alittle gas.

I bleed the air out of the radiator, and now uncertain if the IACV is bad or if its something else? I have checked for vacuum leak with spraying carb cleaner and seems ok. Also removed the fuse to reset the EMU.

When its at idle, the RPM's go up and down and is blow alittle black soot out the tail pipe. There is a very small black circle on the driveway from the exhaust. Im guessing from the carbon cleaning up?

thanks for your help.

I moved your post to a separate thread for better attention. Read posting rules.

Add info on your Accord to your signature.

Up/down idle stability problem suggests IACV is working. A major air leak can cause idle cycling.

Suggest performing idle base setting procedure for your model.

Any Check Engine Light? If yes, what codes?

good luck

Based on past experience, high idling or fluctuating idling has mostly been caused by a leak in a vacuum hose, or leak in a gasket at the throttle body.
