Default Ignition cutting out at 2700rpm

I have a '95 Accord with a 2.2 VTEC, MT. The engine cuts out exactly like a rev limiter on a race car. It had an instrument cluster for an automatic when I bought the car and it cut out at 3500rpm. I changed the cluster to one for a manual trans and now it cuts out at 2700rpm. I am at a total loss here and would appreciate any insight at all to this problem. It really sux because I cannot even get into the power band of the engine when driving.

TIA Jay

Is Check Engine Light On? If yes, get the codes. See DIY forum for instructions. Rev limit occurs when engine has some significant faults which are usually acccompanied by diagnostic test codes.

Instrument cluster should have no affect on engine performance.

Does engine run better cold than fully warmed or same at both temps?

good luck
