Default Intermittent starting problem 1992 Accord

Riddle me this Batman... I have searched multiple forums but haven't found a solution to the following problem. I have a 1992 Accord LX automatic with 101,000 miles (just a baby) that has an intermittent starting problem. When cold it will start immediately and always runs perfectly. If the car has been driven to a point where the temp gauge comes up then is shut down it might start right away or might start, go to high idle, drop through low idle and die out. At that point it will crank but not start. If it is left for about 2 minutes it will start properly. Once again at this point it will run great with no driveability issues. At least it is consistent in that the behaviour is repeatable. When the car cranks in the no start condition there is no spark present (my brother is an auto tech and we put a sensor on the plug wires). There are no CEL codes being produced. I have replaced the ECM (with a used Ebay unit), the distributor assembly with a new, not junkyard, not rebuilt, unit, the plugs and wires. I have even swapped in a different main relay even though it shouldn't have anything to do with the lack of spark. The fuel and air filters have been replaced. The only things left that I can think of are either the resistor box or crank sensor (I'm assuming that a crank sensor is utilized) is at fault. I just wanted to see if there were any other potential causes for this problem. Thanks for any info!!!!

I know you checked the main relay as you said, but I wonder which relay you actually checked. My 92 accord had the same type problem and it was the main fuel relay which was not located where the manual said. It was actually hidden behind the cruise control box to the left of your legs. Anyway, I was getting no spark at all to the plugs when it wouldn't start and other times it would start and run perfectly. The soldier joints in the main fuel relay get what you call " cold solder joints" and creates itermittent problems. But it's main symptom is the the car acts like it's getting no fire to the plugs!! Anyway, you probably already have it fixed by now, just thought I'd throw it in.

wow u have replaced a lot,,,,,,,,,,,when car does not start u need to diagnose if it is lack of fuel or spark.. it will make it a lot easier to diagnose......if u can get ur hands on a fuel gauge hook it up and chk the pressure,,

I have a 90 accord that had a similar problem, turne dout to be a faulty ignition switch. I went to the junkyard and found one used. It is a complete wiring harness about a ft and a half long, goes from the ignition along the steering column and plugs into the fuse panel I believe. When I got the one from the junk yard I plugged it in first and started the car with a screw driver, no problem since last year.

its a common problem that all the 90-93s have, mine has it too. if you click the ign to on and wait 2 seconds before you fire it, it shouldnt do that to you very often. its hasnt really been a big enough problem for me to really try to fix it, but i always let the pump run until i hear it turn off every time i start the car. def could be the switch like someone else said, or the relay, the pump just turns off and thats why the car wont start.

Yo Lightshow my man .....i thouhgt he said when car does not start there is no spark............fuel pump ( fuel supply ) has nothing to do with spark,,,,,,,,,,if it is like he says , NO SPARK ,, then fuel supply is NOT the cause
