Default jumping gauge

I recently had my vehicle speed sensor replaced on my 96 accord lx. Since then, every few days, the speedometer would bounce around between 40 to 6l0. I took it back to be replaced. They want to say its the spring that operates the gauge. Is this possible?? I just wanted it replaces to rule out a potentially bad sensor.

What do you guys think??

you could double check the connection at the sensor, it's fairly easy to get to on the transmission. if the speedo starting getting funky after the repairs, that's likely not the problem.
