Just bought a '94 Accord EX
Good to hear about the smoke.....I guess I got lucky when I said not to get worked up over it
If/when you change the boot, the small end clamp is a "spring" type clamp....Use a small screw driver and unwind it from the boot....you can reuse it. The larger one is a metal band clamp - just like on a cv boot. I cut it off and just used a zip tie.
Again, just be careful when you remove the vent tube from the boot and you should be fine.
Thanks for the pic...that brought back some fun memories
EDIT: How is the "new place" going?

They "spruced up" the hardwood floor which at first glance looked gorgeous but upon close inspection was far from that. The bums who did the floor didn't even vacuum/broom up the floor before laying a thick clear coat. I found screws, rocks, and even a long human hair, forever sealed under the clear coat. I mean cmon, how moronic, and ignorant can this worker be. The further you move into the city (NYC) the more people just don't give a fudge! It's really kinda sad. I am 40 minutes southwest of Manhattan and it's a rat race that's all I can say lol. Luckily my awesome girlfriend scored me an underground secured parking garage space at the apartment building she manages. I park my VW there and drive it on occasion. At my complex I have no parking spot. There is 1 reserved spot per apartment and then a handfull of visitor spots. Once you move your car from a visitors spot, it is a crap show to find a spot when you return. So in venting, the new place is "ok" and soothed all over by the fact that it's free lol.
Now back to the Honda. I just took her to a close family friend who's a master Toyota tech of 35 years. He works on cars on the side and is a pro at doing Honda timing. He quoted me $120 to do the job and I supplied the timing kit. Also since he will have the car opened up, I asked him to replace out those leaky output shaft seals as well as replace the power steering boot. There's only one other person i'd pay to work on my cars and that's my friend with all heavy moving equipment. Other than that I used to be a sucker when I was younger and walk away with 5,6,7,1000 dollar repair bills for something I could have done for $100.
Cool, good to hear everything, for the most part, is going good.
Yea, for that price and someone I knew/trusted....I'd prob pay them to do it. I'm getting old and can't move around or under things like I use to. If I do I pay for it over the next week.

I have to ask...how old are you? Your avatar shows quite a younger guy. I am going to assume that is your son? I am 32, just for the record.
My avatar is a pic of my oldest son. It was taken just after he graduated from Officer Candidates School (OCS) for the USMC a few years ago. He was 22 at the time of the pic.

Hi again everyone! Hope everyone is doing fine and also had a nice Mother's Day. I myself did some heavy traveling to visit my mom. Of course I took the trusty '94 Accord and cruised there in luxury
But upon getting to my mother's, I popped the hood to have a gander at her after the long journey and I noticed the internal seal of my distributor is leaking.
So, I went on YouTube and found a nice DIY but I have one question before I buy the new seals. I see Honda made some Tec distributors and some Hitachi. I am curious as to what mine is. Mine looks exactly the one in the this video...
I of course am going to replace both seals, but want to make sure mine is a Tec distributor. I looked on the cap and that does not say it because it's an aftermarket (Durcrap) cap.
Besides that little leak, she is running great. Just rolled over to 186,000 miles and I got 330 miles to a fill up of some nice Sunoco petro. I hope everyone else out there having luck with their Accord's.

Quick answer the coil on yours is inside the dist, I "think" that those are the TEC dist but I can't remember.
EX = Internal coil
DX, LX = external coil
Didn't watch the video, I will later and see which that is. Are you sure the oil is coming from "under the cap"? The o-ring where the dist seals to the head goes bad all the time - just replaced one of mine Saturday.

I'll PM you in a few.....there are small differences in the dist, my concern is the seals. My memory, which is bad and highly documented as such, has me concerned over the seal availability on the EX vs. LX/DX.
In other words, my memory tells me the DX and LX have a seal that can be had/bought without much issue.....but the seal for the EX is not available....or easily found. That is where I'm stuck.
Again about the only difference in tearing them apart and putting them back together is one has the coil inside (EX - only four wires on the dist cap/ DX or LX will have five) and the other does not.....getting the correct seal is my worry.
Sad to have stupid stuff stuck in my head and can't put it together to help
PS- The o-ring was on the 89 LXi "problem" child.....knew it was not my issue but want to pull the dist and do some tests on a few things. The o-ring was leaking a little bit....so since I was going to pull it and test a few things, why not replace it.....$2, can;t beat that. And needless to say, Saturday after the testing, all came back as good, drove around...no issues. On the way to work she acted up again
. On the way home....drove like a dream......confused but I will get there.

Scott, I am also stumped as to which seals mine takes.
So you're saying that if there are 5 wires on the outside of the cap then it's the standard tec distributor?
Sounds like your '89 has a gremlin that only likes to peek its head out once in a while! Those are the worst!
