License plate bolts
Hi, all. I am new to this forum. I recently bought a 1999 Accord LX with 106,000 miles. It is a four door, four cylinder, auto transmission. Body is mint. Car seemed well-taken care of. Prior owner was running Accolades. I found her insurance card in the glove box and called her. She had the dealer do all routine maintenance. Hope the car lasts as long as I am expecting it to.
I had to put a set of tires on front, and had a CD player installed (still had a cassette deck - I shoulda used it for awhile and dusted off my cassettes).
My question: the dealer I bought it from - a Honda dealer no less, put some lame bolts in for the rear plate. The bolts/screws do not go in but maybe an 1/4 inch. I thought thecorrect bolt was 6 mm, but that did not work. The ones from the front plate did not work, either. What bolts, exactly, do I need?
Thanks

RE: License plate bolts
I had a similar problem when I bought mine. Except there were NO screws in mine at all. The SOB's left the screws out when they took the tag off [sm=chairshot.gif]. Anyways, I took one screw loose from the tag of the 95 Accord and tried it in the hole. It fit, so I went to WalMart and went screw huntin'. When I couldn't find a match I got pretty mad. The closest I could find were screws that came with some kind of "front lisence plate fastener kit." I bought it and the screws worked. The kit actually came with 4 little plastic pieces that the screws were supposed to go into, but I didn't need them.
My screws also look like wood screws as JimBlake said.

2006 accord has screws on front plate and bolts on back plate. Can find both at any auto parts store.
rear plate has 10mm hex head. The bolt is M6-1.0 x 16mm. You could snap them off in the car when loosening - most likely the top two - spray with penetrant first. If you snap the top two..all is still ok. Use the bottom two as they are held with replaceable clips (M6). Bolt could seem to not fit at first due to rust - spray oil and try again. You could use bolt removal tool to pull out the top two.
