Default light problems HELP PLEASE!

ok here is my situation. i have a 89 lx and when i turn the running lights on all is normal. all lights come on that are supposed to come on...now the problem is when i turn on my headlights everything else shuts off. all the dash lights all the running lights..but the brake lights still work. where do i start? fuses? relays? where are they all anyway? also this is a bit off topic but right behind my shifter is a little switch similar to a window switch that has a funny looking symbol above it. when i push it it makes a funny little noise towards my engine compartment...what might this be? thanks for any and all help as i need to drive this car at night and at the moment i cannot.

the little switch is for the power antenna.............the motor is located under the left side of dash,,

you might have a bad combo switch...
