Looking at buying 96 accord lose timing belt need info

Default Looking at buying 96 accord lose timing belt need info

They say it has lose timing belt and wont start just cranks selling it cheap tho 200 dollara is it worth it to get and try to fix

If you buy the car, budget on having the head rebuilt or replaced. Might be less expensive to find a good running motor in a bone yard and do a full engine swap.

Unless your up for a project and throughly enjoy it you may want to keep looking. Just a quick glance on craigslist the first 96 accord was $499 and needed a new muffler. That seems like a way way better deal. Im sure there are others.

It really depends if the timing belt broke, skipped a bunch of teeth, or is off several teeth.

I would probably pull off the valve cover and spin the engine by hand to see how far off the timing belt is. A compression test is another simple test.

Thats may be less then the scrap value a junk yard would give you. Call around and ask worse case you decide not to fix it and they come and get it and you make $100.

Just do what PAhonda says and compression test it. It's likely the engine is just bad.

Just make sure the mechanical timing is spot on before you do.
