Default Loud lifter noise - Do quick fixes really work?

What's up everyone? So my girls 01' Accord (f23a4, I think), has developed a pretty loud noise coming from the valve cover. I think it's a lifter but I'm not 100% sure. Since this noise has gotten louder and louder, her gas mileage has also dropped. I heard that dirty or clogged lifters can affect your mileage, but I don't know how true it is. I heard from that same source that there is a way to put auto. trans. fluid in with your oil for a curtain period and it will clean your lifters and make the noise go away. I know Honda motors have a lot of normal ticks to them, but this isn't normal. Her motor is noisy as hell. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Honda 4 cyl engine does not have hydraulic lifters.
I'd say that maybe a valve adjustment is needed.
The rockers are usually a little noisy at start up/cold, then quiet down some as the engine warms and the rocker arm expands a little bit.

hondadude is 100 %right. And you will drive yourself crazy trying to get them adjusted so they don't rattle a little at cold start. However, if the noise is really loud and/or doesn't go away after warm upan adjustment wouldn't be a bad idea. Just know that you will likely never get it "quiet".

So a valve adjustment is in order I guess. I've never done one but I've got a book and some good mechanic buddies. Thanks for the help you guys.
