Default Loud noise in rear of 96 accord

I have a 96 accord ex that when i gun it in 3rd or 4 th I get a very loud banging grinding noise from the rear of car that scares the heck out of you. If I let off it, it stops until I do it again, but not always. there's not much back there. Brake, bearing maybe ?

I would inspect end links and general suspension inspection for possible worn/damaged parts.

Muffler may be broken and vibrating pipe or heat shield.

No drive parts so something is vibrating or loose causing the noise.

good luck

There's a sway bar back there. I would get under it and inspect. There is some heat shields and if you broke a exhaust hanger it can rattle off anything. The exhaust is pretty close to the rear passenger suspension arm too. My after market exhaust used to rattle off that all the time. Had to put a rubber exhaust hanger in between it

Didn't get it up in the air yet (working on wife's car in shop at moment), but i narrowed down when it does it. If i wind it up in any gear and let off suddenly it starts up...sounds like someone rapping on frame in rear with a ball peen hammer and a rubbing sound. I step on gas to smooth it out and it goes away after a bit. Normal shifting there's no problem or sound. I looked at links above and behind tires and they don't seem to be loose when i jacked up each side to see if bearings were grinding.

Inspect motor mounts, particularly front and rear for damage.

good luck
