Default Low Oil Pressure At Idle

K so heres the issue. my 1991 honda accord seems to have low oil pressure. AT idle on my mechanical gauge, I get 5-7. But when the cooling fan comes on the pressure rises to about 8psi. At 1000 rpms I get about 12psi. But today was 80F. When it was 90F out I had lower pressure and at 3000 rpms I had maybe 55-60psi.

Im running 10w30 right now should I step it up a grade or 2.

I checked the oil level and it was about half a quart overfilled, and there was air bubbles on the dip stick, should I drain some oil?

Or is it the bearings.

55-60 psig oil @ freeway speeds sounds very good.
all oil pressures drop at idle. I'd just drive it.

I tried to worrying about the same thiing with an old car once and
found heavier oil viscosity made no real difference: surprised me.

Let's see if we get more input on this post...

so you're not experiencing anything else unusual? My gauge reads about 10-15 at idle possibly lower when warm. when cruising at 60mph its around 50-65psi and when accelerating over 4000 rpm it pegs out at 100psi

I know our engines use higher than average oil pressure but I wouldn’t be worried about your idle issues. In fact i'd lean more towards your gauge not giving you correct info (not calibrated correctly?) rather than the car being faulty.

I don't get 50-65 cruising at 60. I get like 40-45. And my gauge pegs out at 5-6000 rpms.

I also used to get the oil light to come on at idle before I removed it. I think im going to change my oil tonight. With 3 quarts of 10w-40 and 1 quart of 20w-50.

Ok so today I replaced my oil with 3 quarts of 10w40 and one of 20w50. My pressure at idle is now 12-14 and I reach 50 at around 2000.
