Not sure about total mileage on a tank, but I get about 17-20 mpg around town, and 28-32 on a long distance run.

Better to record actual miles along with actual gallons when you fill up. It's real difficult to duplicate the same "empty" condition of your fuel tank. Remember that Imperial gallons are about 20% larger than USA gallons... I don't know where gonmoises is located?

I believe the correct test is to fill it up to the 'brim' when the automatic cut out kicks it. Do 100 miles or so, return to exactly the same pump and fill it to the auto cut out level again.

Its then a case of doing some mathematics!

Exactly; although 100 miles isn't so important. I'd go closer to empty, more like 300 miles. But still, you do the arithmetic on the actual miles and actual gallons.

well it all depends on how you drive. If your in the gas pedal all of the time you'll only get about 16-17 around town and if you don't speed you'll get about 18-20. But i would do a road test and see because no ones car is the exact same on MPG.

Tyre pressure, especially on the driving wheels can make a difference. Most tyres inflate to about 30-32psi. It can be quite common for tyres to be deflate over time to 20-25psi without any real visual difference. Its only once they drop to 15 or below that it becomes obvious.
