Default mysterious fluid

changing the oil recently I discovered an oil leak that has me scratching my head. It if dripping from the trans/engine joint and is almost clear and feels like hydraulic fluid. Any guesses as to what it might be? Looks kinda like power steering fluid but does not have the same smellh

Check your fluid levels to see which one is low.

Both engine & transmission fluids have relatively large capacity. You'd have to lose a lot of fluid before you see it on the dipstick.

Engine oil gets dark after a few thousand miles. Leaking from the rear-main seal, it finds its way out at the drain hole at the bottom of the bellhousing.

Manual transmission oil is about the same color as engine oil, but doesn't get dark (from combustion products). Transmission oil (auto or manual) can leak through the input-shaft seal and find its way out through the same drain hole in the bottom of the bellhousing.

Auto transmission fluid is sorta pink-ish, but that's when you have a lot of it, like looking down into the bottle. Pour it out and a real thin puddle doesn't look very red.

Brake fluid has a unique smell. Antifreeze has a unique smell. Power steering fluid has it's own smell too, but it doesn't seem very strong to me.

You might want to clean it up then watch to see if it's coming from somewhere & leaking down the outside before reaching the place where you see it dripping.

....and a good old white paper towel might help in giving a better color answer.
