MYSTERY: Tail Light dead, fuse & bulb ok
forindooruseonly, you should start your own thread, so it is not as confusing.
In both cases, you should use a volt meter on the bulb socket to figure out if you have voltage or ground.
The non-black wire should get 12V when you hit the brake pedal to body ground (use a known good ground like any bare metal bolt you can find). If you have voltage, check for ~zero resistance from the black wire to that ground that you used before.
