Remove and open up the TCU/TCM to inspect for any other component that may be faulty. You may even want your EE friend to inspect and test certain components.

Removed TCM for inspection. The previous repair looks good... replaced components show no sign of overheating. Looking over the control I don't see any other obvious issues. I'm going to give to my technican freind and see if he can find anything.

If I need a replacement TCM ...any opinions or experience on whether I should purchase a new one through Honda or a reconditioned one? New from Honda costs 3x reconditioned.

Ebay has plenty for around $100.

I saw some cheaper ( $30-$50) on car-part.com, but you will probably have to mail order to get best price. I've done this a couple of times w/ good results.

good luck

The may be some more capacitors or resistors that are bad on the board. You may want to search this forum and the web to see what people have done to repair their TCUs.

The leaking capacitor may have damaged the board.

After a short conversation with my technician friend about repairing TCM versus buying one through car-parts.com, he convinced me I'm probably better of buying one. So I found one locally for $95 and installed it this evening. Transmission operation is back to normal.

Thank you again for the responses and input. This is a great website.

Thanks for advising the fix.

I think we're seeing more ECM and TCM failures on early to mid-90's Accords, but that's just an impression.

good luck
