Unhappy need help temp guage not reading correctly

Ok where to start I have a 1997 Accord 2.2l LX AT that was in a accident and sat for a while but I am fixing it back up and have encountered a problem I cannot get past. I have replaced the radiator, all the houses, belts, fluids, and sensors. The problem being the coolant temperature sensor for the gauge. It has been replaced twice because I thought the first one was faulty, turns out that wasn't the problem. When it is plugged in and I turn on the car the needle automatically shoots up and says the car is over heating even in just the on position before I start it up all the way. My fans kick on fine but I don't know what else to check or trouble shoot? Help please!

Sounds like the wire or the sensor is grounded out. Trace the wire on/from the sensor and see if it is grounding on something.

Just know that is that wire is grounded....the gauge is prob toast as well.

There's warnings in the shop manual about grounding that wire while troubleshooting the system. If you ground the wire & allow the gauge to shoot all the way up to the top, you can burn out the gauge. So even after fixing the wire, you still have to deal with a (possibly) burned out gauge.
