Default Need some advice for my 2008 2.4 Accord coupe that consumes oil

Hi guys. I have a 2008 Accord 2.4 with 130k miles. It consumes quite a bit of oil and I can instantly tell when it’s low because it will do this “rattle” sound for a second or two when I start the engine up. That rattle noise on startup goes away as soon as I put more oil in.

I get my oil changed every 3000 miles and they always tell me my dipstick is basically no show on oil after 3k miles, even with adding a couple quarts between oil changes to get rid of the rattle.

The car still runs completely fine and I’ve never had anything catastrophic happen, but I do worry that I’m sending it to a premature death if I can’t get this oil situation figured out. The only major thing I’ve noticed is that my gas mileage is pretty terrible. The oil change guy said he’s seen the rear main seals go on my gen of accord but he said that’s just a guess.

Anyone have any ideas what it could be? I thought about changing the PCV but it seems like I’m losing more oil than I typically would if it was a bad PCV.

Many 8th generation Accords had excessive oil consumption due to the piston oil control rings. Several years ago, due to class action lawsuits, etc. , Honda extended the warranty and if excessive oil consumption was evident, they replaced the oil control rings.

I bought an 8th gen Accord new from dealer and was already over the mileage for the extended warranty when it became effective years ago. Your current mileage and the number of years would not qualify for the previous extended warranty.

Just frequently check and fill the oil. At this point, not much else you can do that is still cost/effective. That is what I've been doing since it was new, I am over 250k miles now.
