Default New Accord Owner Questions

Hey Guy's looking for some answer's here. I have just purchased a 96 accord that is in relatively good shape but has high miles 190k. My question is the car is due for a timing belt but I am the type of mechanic that likes to replace what is needed when I am in there so to speak. So if I open the cover up and see seepage I will want to replace the seal's the tensioner and the water pump. This is based on if these parts are original to the car? I have asked the PO and the answer I got is I'm a Teacher???
So the million dollar question is should I do this work or am I wasting my money and time because the engine and or tranny will be toast shortly? Don't have the cash to pee away so a bit of advice would be great! Any tips also would be greatly appreciated! I have a Cummins powered pick up that I will work on and do anything that it needs because I know that this engine if taken care of will last for a very long time! I have also heard many good things about this 2.2 Honda engine and auto trans. are they as hardy as I think or will I be wasting my cash......????
Thanks Fellas!

I very much doubt at that mileage it would "go bad". Give it another 60-100K miles and something MIGHT happen.

The F22 engines are pretty solid. Mine has 240K miles on it and it is still going strong. Not sure about the transmission, because mine is a manual transmission.

If it was my car, I would definitely replace the water pump, the timing and balance shaft belt, and the o-ring seal behind the rear balance shaft gear. I would also consider replacing the two tension bearings and spring. Mine were not real smooth at 190K.

All that would be left to replace are the cam, crank, and front balance shaft seals. If they are not leaking oil, I would not replace. You can pick them up to have ready if needed. Return them if you don't use them.

Make sure that your car has the front balance seal retainer installed.

Or you could go to a pick and pull and see if they have any low milage motors for cheap... Salvage yard in my hometown has a 60k mile f22b1 for 400 dollars...

95 EX 4-door auto going strong at 360K. I'm going to be buying a TB kit, water pump ect soon so I can replace them....hoping for at least another 100K. I guess at 500K I'll let one of the kids have it. Now don't get me wrong, things can go wrong but this has been a great car for the last 150~175K miles.

That engine and trans will outlast most marriages. I would do the timing belt and associated items and inspect the cooling system. There is a heater hose that is slightly hidden below the dist., that can get oil soaked and go bad.
