Default New Vss and speedometer doesn't work

When I bought the Accord last year the speedometer would occasionally stop working (so did Cruise control) , and it got worse. Last week the d4 light started flashing and the Check engine light came on. So I did some research and decided on replacing the VSS instead of running codes.

With the new VSS installed the D4 stopped flashing and the check engine light went off. At first the speedo worked fine, a little slow to pick up the speed, but worked. Next day the speedo is not working again, but no lights this time.

Anyone have any pics of the back of a cluster that NEEDED soldering? I think that might be my problem, but would not know what to solder.

Thanks,
jason

Clear any codes by pulling the 7.5 amp backup/radio fuse in the engine bay fuse box. Then drive until the speedometer messes up. Then check the codes.

Will that make me put in the radio security code?

I was driving yesterday, no speedo at all but the Cruise control was working.

Cruise control uses the VSS signal, so that means the VSS must have been working OK at the time. Sounds like you have something going on "downstream" from where the cruise-control gets that signal.

Is the odo and trip odo working? If not, sounds like the PCB is bad. There are a few write ups around where people have "touched" up the contacts on the PCB and got it to work.

Others grab a PCB from another car and swap it for the old one - that way you keep the milage on yours....but that is off a bit because it is not working

Had a 95 at 385K, only lost around ~200 miles due to a sticking odo/trip - hitting the manit re-set pretty good with the key fixed that....then one VSS.

The odometer does not work when the speedometer isn't. I am going to try and find the write up and do the PCB.
