Red face No Compression on two Cylinders, head gasket??

#MyFirstAsian

2006 Honda Accord EX-L 2.4L, K24
I am new to working on import engines myself. I have purchased the Honda from a friend, for CHEAP, after the dealership told him the engine needed to be replaced. I have never trusted dealership mechanic shops and especially not the shady one my friend took his Honda to.

My question is; Could a blown head gasket cause loss of compression in two side-by-side cylinders? My friend was driving the Honda and when he stopped it would not crank back up. The dealership only did a simple compression test and then said the engine was blown. I just now got the car and have not done the compression test myself yet to test against previous information.

However I was wondering about the head gasket possibility before I started.

Thanks for your time,

John F.

While a blown head gasket can certainly cause such a compression issue; my gut tells me this isn't the case here. I recommend performing a leak-down test as your next step; such a test will help you pinpoint where the compression is being lost.

Thanks for the quick response Shipo.

Okay Saturday I am going to be able to do the test when my new comp gauge comes in. I will do a dry and a wet test and post my results on here, so yall can tell me what you think before I start taking anything apart.

If you confirm two cylinder low and little/no change between dry and wet, I'd be inclined to have a leak-down test done to determine if it is a head gasket or a valve-train issue.
