Ok, I drove it to the store today, coasted partway backwards into the parking spot and pushed it the rest of the way so I could pull straight out, when I came back out, I was only able to get the car into D3 until I got down the road a little and was then able to put it into 2 but not 1, could this mean I need a new shift cable?

 

When you say you could only get the car into D3, what happens when you try to put the car into D4, 2, or 1? Can you select the gear, but not get any movement?

 

I was able to move to D4 & D3 but wouldn't move to 2 or 1, the car would move. It was just feeling like it was in 1 gear, no shifting.

 

I'm out of simple suggestions.

Make sure you adjusted the cable properly, or keep playing with the adjustment described in the shop manual, so you are sure you are selecting the proper gear.

Since you have a TCU code 7, the shift solenoid, wiring, or the TCU might be the issue. You mentioned you had to replace the shift solenoids before. Do you happen to keep an old one to try?

I also don't know if the tps code on the ECU could contribute to your problem.

I suspect that your transmission is the likely problem, but you can keep trying to work on the other issues before having to replace the transmission.

 

Ok, thank you for your help, I'll try these last suggestions.

I have 2 shift solenoids to try. I had started to suspect that none of these things would help. I just hate that it happened within a few hours. I parked it last Saturday about 1:30 pm and it was still shifting and then went back out for pizza about 7 pm and suddenly no shifting.

 

Ok, so, I had no choice but to take my mom to work tonight, in the car, going about 20-25mph, while driving, the speedometer dropped out for a minute, the VSS is enough to keep it from shifting right?

 

Don't worry about answering that question, I've got another vehicle I'll be picking up tomorrow and am seriously considering taking this to the junkyard.
