Noise in instrument panel - 1993 Accord

Hello,
Intermittently for months, I hear an odd, faint, noise that sounds like a slight vibration or very slight whine. Only lately, it has gotten a little louder and much more often so that I can pinpoint it behind the instrument panel.
It sound like just a slight metal-to-metal vibration, but that is the best I can describe. It only happens on highways ... not at slow speeds in town or idling.
Could it be that the speedometer cable needs to be lubed? If so, how do I do that? Any other ideas?
Thanks

I don't think you have a speedometer cable. VSS on the tranny sends an electronic signal instead of a physically twisting cable.
I'll move this to General Tech which is a more appropriate place for this kind of question.
