Default normal?

Took exhaust man off 2.3vtec. And all ports fairly clean with white residue on valve stems except the one with the egr port hole. Is this normal. Caked with looks like black burnt oil. Is this a prob?

The EGR passages can get plugged up with carbon buildup. It is pretty common on hondas. Carbon builds up over time in the passages.

Clean as much out as possible.

The carbon buildup can get pretty bad on the port in the intake manifold upstream from the EGR. This will usually set an engine code.

The intake side is clean. The passage that runs from the exhaust port toward the egr is open. Just didn't know if all that black build up was normal in that one port.
