Default Is this normal under acceleration?

Say I'm driving an automatic 95 and I'm cruising along and I rev up and accelerate, I'm getting faster and faster and then it's almost as if the engine hits a limit and the tach needle does a little tilt and drops all the way down low.

It almost feels as if it's "sputtering" when it hits that limit, you can hear a noise and you can feel a light twitch in the car. It's not a loud noise, kind of like a click. Definitely not an explosion or something.

Roughly 2000-3000 on the tachometer but sometimes it gets up to 3000-4000 before this happens. Happens anywhere in that range I guess.
