Default OBDII READINGS

I'm looking at buying a 1997 Accord LX. I have an OBDII reader and get no codes...but the reader also willdisplay all the engine parameters while it is running and I was wondering if there is a list of what the readings should be on this car to have a better idea of whether all these things are within specs. I see a lot of "n/a"s and just wonder if that is normal also. Thanks.

Give us an example of an item that says"n/a". If it'sa generic scan-tool (not specifically Honda) it probably would show that for certain sensors that don't even exist on your car.

For example your car doesn't have an air mass-flow sensor, but lots of cars DO. Some cars might have as many as 4 oxygen sensors where yours has 2.

When I looked at the carI didn't really make noteof anything I could give as an example. Sorry. But what you're saying makes perfect sense since it is a generic reader from AutoZone. The other things are more of what I wastrying to get some parameters for(coolant temp...rpm...advance degrees ect.) Thanks for your reply.

"n/a" probably means "not applicable"

I think the 97's are OBDI, not OBDII, so they don't report that much info to a scanner.

# 1996: The OBD-II specification is made mandatory for all cars sold in the United States.

fyi - honda didn't comply with obd2 regulations completely in 96. that's why everyone has a free tune up and emission warranty for 15yrs/150,000 miles. [8D]

Hey Jon, did you figure that out all by yourself?
(j/k, couldn't resist...)

If the car was still OBD-1, he wouldn't even be able to plug his scanner in. The plugs are very different.

Honda even went OBD-2 early, in Jon's case ('95 V-6).
