Default Oil

Going in next week for the '11 Accords ELX-V6 first oil change.....
Does anyone use synthetic in lieu of the regular Honda brand oil that the dealer uses. I believe that the dealer stocks and will use a Honda fully synthetic brand upon request.

Kind of a debate. Use the proper weight, syn or dino???.....again, go with the what is suggested in the owners manual and you will be good.

Oil change completed. I went with the fully synthetic. I do not know about all Honda engines but for the new V6s, Honda uses a synthetic/dino blend. The manual states that full synthetic may be used at the owner's option.

The dealer could give no good reason for the manual's statement in the break in section stating that oil should not be changed until so directed by the maintenance minder.

If you are changing the oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months then synthetic is a waste of money.

I personally would go 12 mo/12,000 miles on a synthetic oil change which then makes the extra money worth it.
