Default oil / filter

My car calls for 5W-30 oil. Does it matter if I get it at the Auto parts store of does it need to be "Honda" oil ? What about the filter, I read in a post that it should be OEM ? Thanks

Oil from the parts store is okay, Castrol GTX is my favorite flavor.
The oil filter from Honda has a relief valve in it, so that even if the filter gets plugged up the oil pressure will allow oil to still be delivered to the engine.
Unfiltered oil being better than no oil at all.
Also the filter media/construction is a better grade.

Years ago I worked at a shop that had a bandsaw, cutting cases off ofoil filters reveals information not shown in advertisements.
For instance, I would not put a fram filter on a lawnmower engine; Glued together paper, no relief valve.

I've always used what was on sale as long as it met my specification and viscosity requirement. I've used Walmart, Quaker State, Penzoil, etc. I like the Walmart filters and oil just fine. However lately you can do just as well at O'Riellys w/ an oil change special; Microline filter and O'Reillys oil.

Obviously I don't think oil brand is as important as changing regularly.

I'm at 225K miles on my 94Ex.

Regards

Anyone ever used the Ford Motorcraft synthetic oil? I bought it once when Mobil1 was like $35 for a 5 qt. jug... it seemed okay, but I was a little weary at the $11/jub pricetag for full synth....

Amsoil FTMFW!!!! Royal Purple uses a ton of Moly ... booo for a DD. M1 is good ...... then again, any dino oil will go 5000 miles without any problems, so for most people, Jiffy lube is fine. Motors that hiss and spool should have synthetic, no questions asked.
