Default Oil soaked plug upon reomval of plug wires

Greetings. I'm new. I have a 1994 Accord LX with 174,000 miles. I'm no mechanic, but I can handle small, uncomplicated repairs. Upon removing one plug wire yesterday, the plug was drowning in oil up to the tip. The remaining three had the same condition. I realize that the plug port O rings may need replacing, but I'm perplexed why the car runs well if oil may still be on plug.

I will say that each little "boot" from the plug wires came off upon pulling out wire. I had to dig down to retrieve each one.

Does this sound like the four O rings need replaced? This I can do. Gasket replacing I am afraid of.

If what I describe is classic little O ring trouble, I'm game to do the work. If after 174K, this could be bigger than me, it's off to the mechanic.

Thanks

This to me would be the reason....might as well do the complete valve cover replacement. its not to hard to do either.

welcome wanna!
you have come across one of the most common complaints for this model. Purchase a valve cover gasket kit and replace all the bits. It's a bit tedious, but not too difficult

The little doughnut gaskets that go under the valve cover are the easy ones. The o-rings, which are under the rockerarm assembly, are a lot more complicated to change. Remember, the valve cover bolts/nuts are only tourqed to around 10 ft-lbs. You can easily snap the little studs if you tighten them too much.
