Overhead Interior Light Not Working Properly
You can put the name, just not a direct link.
Some where in my sad head, there is a thought that the alarm might have shorted something........give me a few, sorry being old sucks.
Please check the battery and its connections to be sure they are clean and tight,

I've had this problem over and over, sounds like it's still the switch. There's just one phillips screw holding it on, you can take it apart and clean the contacts if you want, there's just a little spring in there that you don't want to lose. Sometimes when you test it with your finger it's fine but the door still won't trigger it, I've gone through about 2 of them, easy to grab at a junkyard or on ebay.
Two more clues:
1 - The light on the driver's-side door lights when the door is opened.
2 - Door and Brake Lamp Monitor - The red light does not show indication the door is open.
3 - The alarm system also doesn't recognize the door is open. Therefore, the ignition kill and door locks will activate after one minute, unless I turn the ignition to the on position.
4 - I checked the Door Monitor when the key is put into the "on" position - All the lights are lit, including the left door light.
5 - I found a possible answer in the July 2003 Honda Service News, which comes from a website called Autoremanual.com. I have the pdf, but need instructions on how to post here. The situation varies slighty, as in the example the door light comes on when the door is opened.
Any other ideas are most appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert

Correct - the indicator for the passenger side does show when that door is open.
The green/orange wire you refer to - where is that located?
I'm considering having the alarm / remote door opener removed, and replaced with a system just to remotely open the door. Does this involve removing the gauge cluster? I'm trying to get a handle on cost, just a ballpark figure so I don't get ripped-off too much.
Thanks,
Robert
The green/orange wire is the "ground" from the door jam switch. It "branches" to run the light in the door, indicator on the dash, and the overhead light. Since the light on the door is working but the others (dash, dome) are not.........
I don't think the dash has to come out.....but I don't know much about aftermarket alarm systems.

This is from a post you made on 1-14-12 re a 93 Accord:
The wire to the switch is a ground, so if you remove the switch and slide it out, then remove the wire, ground it and see if the light comes on....
Do you have a diagram of how to remove the wire and ground it?
I don't believe the shop I took the car to removed the wire; they did remove the switch, and checked it for rust and wear.
Thanks again for your help.

Wow, you are really searching....
Basically your 96 is the same. There is a rubber boot covering the switch (frame of the car, just below the door striker), work it off with your fingers, behind that towards the top is a phillips screw, remove the screw, then "wiggle" the switch out.
There will be a wire connected to it. That is the ground wire. You will have to find a place close by to ground it...please don't let the wire go back inside the hole or you will be fishing for it
But really, since the light on the door is coming on, I believe the issue is "further upstream". If I had to "guess" - which I hate to do - I'd be worried about the wire where it goes thru the "boot" in the door jam. Again the door light comes on....if it was me, I would pull the dash and check for ground on pin B5 going into it. If you are paying someone, they will charge a pretty good penny for this........

Here's the latest regarding the interior light:
Last week, out of the blue, the interior light starts working again. In addition, the dashboard indicator showing drivers door ajar was working again.
Not working was the following:
Normally, when the trunk is opened, the alarm system should be disabled. Instead, the "panic light" was blinking, and the alarm/door locks were being set.
I found a local alarm/sound installer who services DEI products. My feeling was the alarm system wire in the trunk was loose. Instead, the issue was a loose alarm system wire under the dashboard.
At this point, everything - interior light, door locks, alarm system, remote - seems to be working good. I'm hoping the loose wire was the cause, since intermittent problems are the hardest to fix.
Thanks to all for your help.
