+1, that is the way I've always done it? Only thing to add, might be on the other pages, is to set the heat to max and be sure the heater control valve is open - auto ac systems you might have to turn the car to on to get the valve to open.

 

I had a 1998 without auto climate control, and the heater valve was motorized. So after turning the temperature dial all the way to HOT, you had to turn the key ON and then the valve would actually move. So I think it's not just auto climate systems, it's anything 1998 & later.
