Default PLEASE HELP!! 1989 Accord LX Carb problems

I removed the carburetor off of my 89 lx to replace it with a new one. I reconnected all the vac lines as per the diagram and the fuel lines as well. The car ran terribly with the old carb; would not even start with the new one. I re installed the old one and it wont even fire. it coughs and sputters and comes close but wont run. all vacuum lines are correct and the nuts are tightened to 17 ft lbs. this is my first time installing a honda accord carb and i feel like i must have missed something somewhere. all electrical is hooked up and the EFE is putting out .33 volts when tested. The carb has not been adjusted at all.

Any thoughts are helpful thank you

Please do not post in the DIY Section - there is a sticky telling you this. I have moved this one for you.

Default Fixed after careful inspection

Ok so for informational purposes I am going to post what I did wrong so that others may learn from my mistakes.

The first time around I didnt torque down the nuts to 17 ft lbs so radiator fluid was allowed into the intake manifold, and flooded the engine. I also missed one of three connections though I am unsure if any of these would cause the car to not start.

I pulled the carb out and soaked up as much coolant as possible out of the intake manifold as possible with a clean shop rag, then I removed the spark plugs, cleaned them, and let them dry. I left the spark plugs out and turned the engine over to blow out the excess liquid (ensuring that my fuel line was directed into a gas can while turning it over).

I replaced the spark plugs, cleaned and reinstalled the carburetor, replaced all of the vacuum lines and plugged in in all three electrical items (EFE harness on drivers side below the vacuum lines; Autochoke is located on the passenger side of the carburetor and slides into another wire located just below the rear of the carburetor, and the primary slow mixture cut off solenoid harness located on the rear of the carb plugs into a harness on the passenger side of the carb.

This is how I got my car to start after having trouble with the install. I hope anyone who reads this can find some help in it. Good luck

Also if there is something not right about the process I used please let me know as I am still learning.

Thank you for the update....too many times we never know the end.

I'm going to bet we would have never came to "that" answer so again thanks.

Your process for clearing the fluid is very good. Only thing you might do, if still having any issues, is do a compression check of the cyl's. Not sure how much water got into the cyl, so you want to be sure everything is ok........no bent valves, ect.

Check the dipstick after running the eng for bit, again looking to be sure not too much water/coolant got pushed past the rings.

And last, my answer yesterday may make you think I'm an a@*, not what I was trying to be but the rules are the rules.......and if nothing else I'm a BIG fan of the 3rd gens
