Hi good people. Our 2000 V6 Honda Accord with 160,000 miles (only car for 2 working adults and 2 7 year olds) is past inspection and just earned us a $240 ticket today. Frankly, I can not afford to pay what I expect the dealership to charge. I just finished school and got a great job as a nurse, but for about 6 months I need to tread water with this car. So help please lol

I got the p0300, 0304, 0305, 0306 and 1399 which I understand are general and specific to cylinder misfiring and the first action is to
check intake and intake gaskets leaks. How do I do this? Can it be done without a hydraulic jack?

I also have code p0505. I understand it has to do with rough idling. Is there anything I can do to fix this on my own.

THe police are ticketing me where I park and Im at the point of having to walk an hour cause there are no busses and it's 20 degrees in PA.

How many miles are on the current spark plugs? Have you inspected the distributor cap and rotor?

 

Can you give a bit of back ground?

Tune up items, plugs mainly, are they up to date?

Either way, the 505 is what you need to address first.

What skill level and tools do you have to take this on?

Your 2000 Accord V6 has individual ignition coils; so, no distributor.

The questions regarding spark plugs, skill level, and tools are applicable.

The attached image has some info. regarding a faulty EGR valve which can cause the multiple misfires. However, it may not be the EGR valve though.

I have never changed the spark plugs myself so in ignorance I'd have to say they are 100K miles old - thats how many miles I've put on the car.

I've watched a tutorial on replacing the plugs - if I dont have the correct size sockets I can get them. My dad owned an auto parts store for 25 years - he has had everything I've ever needed in the past. The only caveat is it's 10 degrees in Philly and I dont have a garage. Is it possible the plug change could wipe everything?

Skill level: with Dad, fair to good, although he knows american cars best. Given the weather and likelihood of him coming out in it, not so good.

Are there quick checks/interventions I can try? And if so, is there a way to access the codes on my own? IE, if I do an intervention, must I head to autozone after each attempt to see if the code comes back? I know our old Wrangler had a key-turning feature that displayed the codes...

Hi PA. To be honest, this is my first research in to the matter so I dont know how to inspect the cap and rotor.

 

Redbull said your car has individual coils, so no distributor.

Make sure you get the NGK plugs recommended for your car. I believe they are the PZFR5F-11. There should be a sticker under your hood with this information. Also, the owner's manual should have this as well.

 

Spark plugs are probably called for at 100k miles. You got the car with 60k so they were probably original at that time. So now maybe the original plugs have 160k miles?? If that's true, new sparkplugs is the first thing I would suggest.
