Question about A 2000 EX 4 cy
Glad to find your forum.
I 'm looking to purchase a 2000 EX 4 CY with 141K. This Accord is in excellent condion, new timing belt and water pump, new tires, body is super clean, like new. Dealer was asking $5900 and I got him to come down to $5200, which I believe is an excellent deal. This car looks almost Brand new and I'm picky.
MY concern is the Transmission problems with this car. Car drives well and shifts fine...just concerned of futur tranny issues. No info if tranny was replaced (Car Fax).
#1 Would you buy this car??
#2 Where can I find out if this car had the tranny replaced? Can I take the VIN # to a HOnda dealer to find out??
#3 I thought only V6 models had tranny problems???
Thanks

And that's a fact about that help from the dealerships...

V6 transmissions had more problems just from the posts that I have read on here.
There should be a model and serial number stamped on the transmission. The dealership should be able to tell you if that was the original one that came with the car.
On my car it is on a flat spot near where the transmission meets the engine block. The location may be different on your car.

Thanks...I'll take the VIN to my local Honda dealer, they have a decent reputation.
Should I be concerned about the Tranny on this 2000 EX 4CY???
This car seems to be in perfect condition.
Any help would be appreciated.
Heard too many horror stories on tranny issues.

DO NOT buy the car until you have it checked out by a shop that specializes on Hondas or a Honda dealer ,, ( different than the 1 your are buying car at ) ,Ask for a buyer's inspection ,,trust me it will be the best 70-80 dollars that you will spend ..

Respectfully, I don't believe a Honda dealer, or anyone else can predict when the tranny is going to fail from an inspection.
This generation Accord's auto tranny seems to be a crap shoot.
