On my 94 coupe the radiator fan does not turn on after the car is off. I thought that it is suppposed to come on after you turn the car off to cool the motor, but mine will only be on if the keys are in the run position. If I turn it to the Accessory position it turns off.
Just now I drove for about 20 minutes, turn the car off and the fans turn off, I clicked the keys forward and both fans turned on. Once I turn the keys back they shut off.
Is there some relay or something I should check, I dont want to screw up the head.

 

There is a temperature sensor B that is on the cylinder head that will switch the fans on when the car is turned off.

The temperature sensor should close the circuit at a set temperature. I think that temperature where sensor B is set is at a higher temperature than Sensor A that handles the fans when the car is turned on.

 

So, if I understand that correct there are 2 sensors and one is for when the cars off and one for when the cars on..

That is correct.

It might be hard to test it on the car, because you won't know the actual temperature of the coolant.

The fan temp sensors are an on/off switch. You can use a volt meter set on continuity setting (or resistance setting). The switch should be open (infinite resistance) when coolant is below the set temperature and closed (~zero resistance) when coolant is above the set temp.

The way the shop manual has you test it is to heat up engine oil with a thermometer. The sensor should read closed from 217-228 degrees F.

I "though" that one fan was for the AC and one is for the Coolant.

When I turn the AC on and the car is cold, both fans turn on.

Yes, both fans turn on immediately when you turn on the a/c.

 

DO both fans turn on when the vehicle is off and its trying to cool itself?

 

I don't know. If you short the plug at the temp b sensor with a piece of wire, at least one fan should come on when the car is turned off.

If the fan(s) turn on, the either test or replace the temp b sensor.

 

I think that it's supposed to work like this...

Engine on, AC off, temperature climbs a bit above 1/2 = BOTH fans should switch on.

Engine on, AC ON, = BOTH fans will switch on & off along with the AC compressor.

Engine has just been turned off & it's sufficiently hot = ONE fan will run for a little bit.

After engine has been OFF for 20(?) minutes, the timer prevents further fans running.

 

JIm you got it right........engine off ,,, the passenger fan only should run for about 15-20 minutes..........
