Default real time diagnosis needed

Coolant leaking on a 1995 Accord LX 2.2 ltr. auto trans.

I want to buy the car, but owner says he's putting in a half gallon of coolant every 9-10 days. (100 degrees here in north Texas right now)

Sounds like a minor issue, but experience tells me a coolant leak is never minor. He has had visual inspections and preasure tests and has been told they want to pull the head and check for cracks.

Any suggestions on possible solutions?

Look for a different car. Or be prepared to spend some money.

If you don't see the coolant leak or puddle under the engine, it's a blown head gasket. Check spark plugs for wetness. Overheating destroys engines so I'd pass on this one. A easy fix will only last 10-20K max.

first thing i would do i to pressure test the cooling system, including the radiator cap.. make sure there are no leaks.. if no leaks, make sure t-stat opens fine and fans work ok,,...if you find something wrong fix and retry,, if nothing wrong,, have a shop do a leakage test for possible blown head gasket, cracked head ..
