Removal of Fuel Tank 2000 Accord LX
Just bought this car. First of all, plan to keep it. From what I can tell the tank does have a leak at or about the seam at the front of the tank (thank you road salt!). I've tried the seam seal bit w/o success. Looks as if gonna need to drop the tank. I've done my share of backyard mechanics thru the years, but I'm a bit concerned over this one. Some sources (not here) say it's not that involved other than plan on two to four hours and plan your day accordingly. Another source discusses the removal of a lot more (Disconnect ABS, drop rear suspension, rear wheels removed (that's maybe a given), remove catalytic converter etc etc. I suspect the prior relates to an earlier Honda Accord like a 96, 97, or 98. If it's as involved as the later, I may just let my mechanic tackle the job. The dollar difference is $160 for the new tank and my time vs $500 - $600 to let the mechanic do it. The fact I own a 2000 Accord tells you that I don't have a lot of money to spend. So, do I save up and let the other guys do it or do I brave it? And which version of tank removal is right, the first or second? Please help. In the mean time, I fill the tank half full...

Sound like sub-frame has to be removed.
