It looks like they are differentiating by Hitachi or TEC. Most I've seen says does not fit Hitachi or for TEC only. I've only seen a few that says for Hitachi.

This thread (https://www.hondaaccordforum.com/for...erences-58861/) indicates: "94-97 LX, DX with TEC Distributor: Rotor 30103-P08-003".

I searched hondapartsnow.com by my car's VIN and the site indicated I should order part No. 30103-P08-003. I've ordered that part via Amazon.

A VIN search also shows my car as: 1997 Honda Accord 4 Cylinders 2.2L MFI SOHC

Here's a diagram showing the TEC distributor: https://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuin...3-p08-003.html. Is this my distributor, or not?

For additional reference, here's the Hitachi distributor: https://estore.honda.com/honda/parts...&b=E++0510&dl=
At this point, going off the links I'd say you have a TEC distributor. I say that, because looking at the drawings the Hitachi has the coil built into it, and you can see the cap doesn't have a pole for a separate coil wire to attach to (built into the cap).
As to the fit or no fit, it might be a manufacturers fault (made wrong).

Thanks to all for your help. The OEM distributor rotor (Honda Part #30103-P08-003) fit (where the after-market BWD Part #D712P did not), and the job is complete.

I replaced the distributor rotor screw with a 5mm-.80 x 10mm coarse hex cap screw. If you're working on a '97 Accord DX, file that information for future reference!

I'll attach pictures of the old vs. new Honda distributor rotors and the hex cap screw vs. original screw.
