Replacing axel on '99 Accord

Hey whats up.
Just found this site online and think it'll come in handy because I own an Accord and I've been looking around the web for a site that people can answer about my car.
I have a 1999 Honda Accord DX 4 Dr and I broke my right front axel today...yes, ouch I know. A buddy of mine who's a mechanic came over and looked at the car while it was in my drive way and determined that the axel was broken by pointing out all the grease everywhere along with a few other things that pertain to a broken axel. We didn't jack the car up to look further but he said he could replace the axel and all I had to do was buy one. He did say, however, that sometimes it can be difficult to just do in your front yard because some cars are harder to replace the axel and some are easy. I was wondering if anybody on here has replaced their own axel or have knowledge of it first hand before I go down and buy a axel and have him waste his time jacking the car up and then saying he can't do it. Also, any places I can get a relatively inexpensive axel assembly?

Just replace my drivers side axle about a month ago. Are you sure you just didn't tear a CV boot? It's the black covering on the joints on the ends of the axles. If it is freshly torn you might be able to clean it and repack it with grease or take the easy route and buy an axle assembly (I got mine at racepages.com, ~$70 for the axle, $75 for the core, return the old axle and you get the $75 back). It's no extremely hard, but you need to have a lot of time. You'll have to removed the disc brake and swing the hub to the side. Get a Haynes/Chiltons manual and you'll be good to go with the exact instructions.
make sure if you have ABS get a ABS shaft. viceverse. not that hard though but dont use pinch fork . rent the small ball joint/ pitman arm remover. use a flat nail bar to pluck the shaft from the transmission. look around under there too and see if the broken shaft has hit anything when it broke.
