Default RPM and EGR problem???

So we have a 96 beater Honda accord 2.2 vtec that I've been using while I'm redoing my car. There are a few codes that comes up - misfire on 3 and 4 - solution suggested (most common problems) by the reader were the EGR valve. The fuel cap code (replaced yesterday) was also present. While looking at the car yesterday, the car dies, we noticed the pcv valve hose was sucked closed. So I replaced the hose and valve and the fuel cap. It was fine last night except for the misfire.

Today, the wife was running around in it and says that the RPMs drop to zero and when pressing the gas, it has no response - almost as if the car is dead. Turn car off, turn car on and it all gravey.

Other then replacing the EGR valve, does anyone have any suggestions???

Post the actual codes you have on here.

I would suggest to clean the EGR ports before replacing the EGR valve. See the common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum for a link to cleaning egr ports on the 94-97 accord.

I'll read the codes again tomorrow and get the actual codes. In the meantime, I'll see what I can do about cleaning the ports.

~P0457 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Leak Detected Fuel Fill Cap Loose/Off (fixed with new fuel cap)

~P0303 No. 3 Cylinder Misfire
~P0304 No. 4 Cylinder Misfire
I'm assuming these top two are from the EGR ports needing to be cleaned, but I'm not certain of that. I plan to get a new distributor cap to install, along with cleaning the ports tomorrow. Hopefully that will get rid of the sputter you get when cruising (normally noticeable around 50mph), the random dying of the car that just started happening, and the CEL. Then it's on to the ABS light (which I was told may be just the sensors needing to be cleaned)

The 96 still has the OBD-I port, use that to get the ABS code.

Why just the cap? If you are not sure of the age suggest cap and rotor.....might also think about a set of NGK plugs.
