Question (S) light in dash flashing

HI All,
Our 92 Accord has starting playing up. THe sport light for the gearbox has started flashing in the dash area. Have also noticed the car will now not change gears properly since light has started flashing?? Seems to only select first and fourth (and OD too). I can manually select gears and runs as per mechanically, but just not shift if left in auto.

I suspect the issue is purely electronic. Do these boxes have a stand alone electronics section that controls everything?? if so where is it and what does it look like.

Oh, oil is full and nice and red, no signs of burning or blackening.

Any advice, pointers, actions to rake etc on what the issue is would be great.

Cheers Andrew

The "S" lamp is like the engine-malfunction lamp but for the transmission. You check for error codes the same way (jumper the SCS connector) but it's the "S" lamp that flashes out a code instead of (or in addition to) the MIL.

There's quite a few things that can cause the S lamp to flash. Best to read the error code so you can narrow it down.
